Our Faith

What We Believe

What do we believe? In short, it's all about Jesus.

At the heart of everything is our faith in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, the only Saviour. He died as the penalty for sin, was raised from the dead, and now rules over all as King. Today, he works in us by his Word and Spirit, and will come again in to defeat evil forever, and establish his perfect Kingdom. The Church exists to tell the world this good news about Jesus. We believe that the Bible is the Word of God.

We are part of the Church of Scotland, which seeks to inspire the people of Scotland and beyond with the Good News of Jesus Christ through enthusiastic worshipping, witnessing, nurturing and serving communities.

As a Reformed church, we seek to be faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission.  We subscribe to the historic creeds of the Church such as the Apostle's Creed and the Westminster Confession of Faith

We are part of the Church of Scotland, although our ABK Church family has a very wide variety of Church backgrounds (or no church background) within it.

The Bible
  • We believe the Bible - containing the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments - is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts.

  • The Bible is the revelation of God's truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice. It requires our submission in all areas of life.

  • The Bible is uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks.

God
  • We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect in all that He does.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God's people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.

Salvation
  • We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God's displeasure, except by His mercy.

  • We believe that Salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.

  • Salvation comes through trusting in Jesus Christ as your personal saviour and Lord. Namely, trusting that through his perfect life, sacrificial death, and physical resurrection from the dead, your sins against God are wholly forgiven.

The Church
  • We believe that God's Church is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit are united together in the body of Christ.

  • We believe that the Church is a community, united in their desire to follow Jesus in daily life.

  • We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises.

  • We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that, one day, Jesus Christ will return as King to the earth, bodily and visibly, to judge all humanity, establish his perfect Kingdom, and to receive His people to Himself forever.
